The host Wildcats won the doubles point by taking two out of the three matches and went on to win four out of six singles matches, including a critical pair of three-set triumphs. As was the case against defending Northeast Conference Champion Quinnipiac eight days earlier, the Bearcats found themselves in a 3-1 hole with three singles matches to play. Adding to the drama was that all three matches went to a decisive third set Senior Zeynep Altinay (Ankara, Turkey) rallied to defeat Olga Ruislova at first singles 2-6, 6-1, 7-5. At second singles, however, sophomore Juliana Umeki (Mogi de Cruises, Brazil) lost a tough three-set match to Lucia Polakova 7-5, 2-6, 6-2. Also falling short in a match that went the distance was senior Lya Kushnirovich (Brooklyn, N.Y.), who was defeated at third singles by Kiara Powell 2-6, 6-4, 6-1. Earlier in the day, freshman Danyelle Shapiro (Boca Raton, Fla.) and sophomore Nicole Scarangella (Massapequa, N.Y.) won at third doubles, defeating Monika Musilova and Jeneice Ward 8-7 (1). Freshman Erica Rosenblum (Albany, N.Y.) won her match at No. 6 singles, beating Ward 6-3, 6-1. Binghamton continues its spring trip on Tuesday with a 2 p.m. match at Florida Atlantic. SINGLES 1.
