Women's tennis hosts Binghamton Invitational

Day 1 results

BINGHAMTON, N.Y.-- Freshman Lauren Bates (Buffalo, N.Y.) won two singles matches to increase her record this season to 8-0 as the Binghamton women's tennis team won eight of 10 singles matches and swept all three of their doubles matches on the first day of the four-team Binghamton Invitational.

Bates also teamed up with fellow freshman Anne Edelman (Great Neck, N.Y.) to win a doubles match. Freshman Yulia Smirnova (Moscow, Russia) and sophomore Danyelle Shapiro (Boca Raton, Fla.) each went 2-0 in their singles matches and joined together to win a doubles match.

The Bearcats are hosting Marist, Colgate and NJIT in this non-team scoring event.

The Binghamton Invitational will resume Sunday at 9:15 a.m with two more rounds of doubles play and one more round of singles matches.
