tennis hosts second day of Binghamton Invitational
BINGHAMTON, N.Y.--Freshman Lauren Bates (Buffalo, N.Y.) won two doubles matches and a singles match on Sunday as Binghamton swept all five of its singles matches and won four of its six doubles matches on the final day of the four-team Binghamton Invitational. Bates, who was named both the Flight A singles champion and Flight A doubles champion, improved both her singles record and doubles record to 9-0 on the season.
Bates teamed up with classmate
Edelman (Great Neck, N.Y.) to win the doubles title,
winning all three of their matches. Edelman was also 2-0 in singles
play. Freshman Yulia
Smirnova (Moscow, Russia) and sophomore Danyelle
Shapiro (Boca Raton, Fla.) also went undefeated this
weekend, each going 3-0 in singles matches and 3-0 while playing
together as doubles partners.
The freshman trio of Bates, Edelman and Smirnova are a combined 23-2 in singles play this season.
Also playing in the Binghamton Invitational were Colgate, Marist and NJIT. There was no team scoring.
The Bearcats return to action Oct. 6 at home against Siena.
