Women's tennis wins nine of 11 matches at final day of Bloomsburg Duals

BLOOMSBURG, Pa.--For the second consecutive day, Binghamton's trio of freshman led the way at the Bloomsburg Women's Tennis Duals. The Bearcats as a team won nine of 11 matches and finished the two-day non-scoring event with 16 wins in 19 total matches.

"This was a good start to the year," head coach Mike Stevens said. "It gives us some success to build on."

Freshmen Lauren Bates (Buffalo, N.Y.), Anna Edelmann (Great Neck, N.Y.) and Yulia Smirnova (Moscow, Russia) all went 2-0 in singles play on Sunday and finished the weekend a perfect 3-0. In addtion, Edelman and Bates teamed up to win their doubles match while Smirnova's doubles win came with junior Nicole Scarangella (Massapequa, N.Y.).

Up next for Binghamton is the Quinnipiac Tournament Sept. 22-23.
