Altinay breaks school record for career victories at final day of Bloomsburg Duals

BLOOMSBURG, Pa.-- Senior Zeynep Altinay (Ankara, Turkey) broke the school record for career wins and Binghamton won 12 out of 15 matches, highlighting the final day of the Bloomsburg Women's Tennis Duals. There were no teams scores kept during the weekend.

For the two-day event, Binghamton won 26 of 33 total matches.

"We started off the season with a lot of quality wins," head coach Mike Stevens said. "We still have work to do this year but this is the best we have looked at this tournament since I've been here (four years). Overall, I am very pleased with our efforts this weekend."

With her 6-2, 6-2 win over Jaclyn Williamson of Villanova at No. 2 singles, Altinay broke the school record for most career wins (70). Lisa Denerstein (1988-92) held the old record with 69 wins.

"This is a great accomplishment for Zeynep," Stevens said. "She is healthy and playing very well right now."

Fellow senior Lya Kushnirovich (Brooklyn, N.Y.) now has 68 career wins with her 6-1, 6-2 win over Leighann Riley of Villanova at No. 3 singles. She is just one win away from Denerstein's former record and two victories away from Altinay's current mark. For the weekend, Kushnirovich went a perfect 3-0 in singles matches and won two out of three doubles contests.

Binghamton hosts it's fall invitational from Sept. 30-Oct. 1 at the West Gym Courts.
