Binghamton women's tennis sweeps Colgate 6-0

VESTAL, N.Y..-- Binghamton (15-3) swept Colgate (7-12) 6-0 in a non-conference women's tennis match at the West Gym Courts on Wednesday afternoon. The win was fourth straight triumph for the Bearcats.

Sophomore Lauren Bates and freshman Jillian Santos defeated Elise DeRose and Cameron Williams 8-0 at first doubles. Bates went on to defeat DeRose 6-3, 6-1 at first singles while Santos downed Alexandria Erickson 6-0, 6-0 at second singles.

Also winning both her matches was sophomore Yulia Smirnova, who beat Williams 6-2, 6-1 at third singles. At second doubles, she joined freshman Emma Leibowicz to record an 8-6 win over Erickson and Stephanie Brown.

Binghamton won all five singles matches and two doubles matches.

The Bearcats wrap up the regular season on Saturday with a 1 p.m. home match against Albany.
