Binghamton women's tennis wins 4-3 at Cornell

ITHACA, N.Y.-- Juniors Anna Edelman and Yulia Smirnova each swept their singles and doubles matches, leading Binghamton (4-0) to a 4-3 win over Cornell (2-4) late Friday night at the Reis Tennis Center. After winning two of the three doubles matches, the Bearcats clinced the win by taking three of the six singles matches.

Edleman was a 6-4, 6-1 winner over Natalie Sanchez at No. 4 singles. She also joined sophomore Marina Bykovskaya at second doubles to record an 8-4 win over Christine Ordaway and Sarah O'Neill.

Smirnova, meanwhile, defeated O'Neill 7-5, 6-2 at third singles and teamed up with sophomore Emma Leibowicz to beat Kristin Lim and Ruxandra Dumetrescu 8-6 at third doubles.

Also winning in singles action was junior Lauren Bates, who defeated Lim 7-6, 4-6, 6-4 at the No. 1 spot.

The Bearcats head back to Ithaca on Saturday for a 3 p.m. match against Rutgers.
