Binghamton women's tennis beats George Washington 5-2

WASHINGTON, D.C.-- Sophomore Yulia Smirnova, junior Danyelle Shapiro and freshman Marina Bykovskaya all won their singles and doubles matches, leading Binghamton (12-3) to a 5-2 win over George Washington (6-9) in women's tennis action on Monday afternoon. The Bearcats won two of the three doubles matches and four of the six singles matches.

Smirnova defeated Jennifer Hirsh 6-1, 6-1 at third singles. She also joined freshman Emma Leibowicz in beating Hirsh and Meg Tyner 8-2 at second doubles.

Shapiro and Bykovskaya won 8-4 over Zoe Krohn and Verena Knoedler at third doubles. Bykovskaya went on to defeat Krohn 6-3, 6-1 at fourth singles while Shapiro betat Madhuri Jha 6-0, 6-0 at sixth singles.

Also victorious for the Bearcats was freshman Yagmur Gone, who defeated Meg Tyner 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 singles.

Binghamton travels to UMBC for a 2 p.m. match on Thursday.
