Binghamton women's tennis takes part in ITA East Regionals

Friday, October 19

Freshman Lauren Bates (Buffalo, N.Y.) won a pair of matches in the qualifying round of the ITA East Regional on Friday. She defeated Lauren Ritz of Yale 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 in the opening round and Jackie Herb of Quinnipiac 6-3, 6-4 in the second round. The main draw, which features Bates and fellow freshman , starts Saturday morning.

Saturday, October 20

Bates and fellow freshman Anna Edelman (Great Neck, N.Y.) won their first round doubles match, defeating Taylor Marable and Melissa Saiontz of Princeton 8-6. In the second round, they fell just short against Virginia's Amanda Rales and Jennifer Stevens, losing 9-8 (5). Rales and Stevens were seeded ninth out of 64 doubles teams in the tournament.

Edelman bounced back with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Pascalene Cette of UMBC in her first round singles match. Bates, however, lost a tough 6-7 (8), 6-1, 6-4 decision in her first-round match against Elena Triebskorn of Longwood.

Sunday, October 21

Edelman defeated Dominique Liguori of Fordham 7-5, 6-3 in her second round singles match to move into the round of 32. There she was defeated by Kellie Schmitt of Marshall, the No. 3 seed in the tournament, by scores of 6-3, 6-3.
