Former women's tennis standout Lya Kushnirovich named head coach at Brooklyn College

VESTAL, N.Y.- Lya Kushnirovich, who concluded her stellar four-year career with the Binghamton women's tennis team in 2007, has been named the head coach at Brooklyn College. She takes over a Division III program which finished the 2007-08 season 10-5 and posted a 6-2 mark in the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC).

In her four years at Binghamton, Kushnirovich was a three-time all-conference selection, the team MVP her junior year and the team captain as a senior. Her singles mark of 85-31 (.733) stands as the second best in school history. She was also recognized as a Scholar-Athlete in 2006 and 2007 and was inducted into the National College Athlete Honor Society in 2006.

"This is a great opportunity for Lya," head coach Mike Stevens said. "We are proud of her accomplishments here at Binghamton and know that she will do a good job at Brooklyn."

Kushnirovich has also worked as an instructor at the Nike Tennis Camp and the Army Tennis Camp at West Point. In addition, she has served as a tennis instructor in Brooklyn since 2002.
