Binghamton women's tennis loses 8-1 at Lynn (Fla.)

LYNN, Fla.- The Binghamton women's tennis team (6-5) saw its five-match winning streak broken by Lynn (Fla.) on Thursday afternoon. The No. 3 ranked NCAA Division II squad in the nation improved its record to 16-2 with an 8-1 victory. Under Division II rules, all nine matches were each worth one point.

At first singles, freshman Anna Edelman (Great Neck, N.Y.) defeated Victoria Weltz 2-6, 6-2, 10-5. Weltz is currently ranked No. 20 among all Division II players at the No. 1 singles position. Fellow freshman Lauren Bates (Buffalo, N.Y.) also got to the super tiebreaker at second singles before losing 6-2, 5-7, 11-9 to Alexandra Schunk, ranked No. 18 at that slot. Lynn won the other four singles matches in straight sets.

Earlier in the day, Weltz and Schunk, ranked third among all NCAA Division No. 1 doubles teams, defeated Edelman and Bates 8-6.

Binghamton resumes its schedule on Wednesday at Fairleigh Dickinson at 3:30 p.m.
