Binghamton women's tennis loses 5-2 to Marquette

ITHACA, N.Y.-- The Binghamton women's tennis team's seven-match winning streak came to an end on Sunday with a 5-2 loss to Marquette (8-5). The Bearcats (7-1) lost three three-set matches in singles play and a tie breaker at third doubles.

Junior Anna Edelman was the lone Bearcat to sweep both her singles and doubles matches. At fourth singles, she beat Rachel Hush 6-2, 6-4 and at second doubles, she joined sophomore Marina Bykovskaya to defeat Olga Fisscher and Maggie Wilson 8-4.

Edelman and Bykovskaya are currently ranked No. 59 in the ITA national doubles rankings. The duo has goine 5-1 so far this spring season.

Junior Lauren Bates improved to 65-25 all time in singles matches with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Paola Calderon at the No. 1 slot. In the process, she moved into eighth place all time in school history with her 65th career singles win. Bates, who now has a 65-25 all time record, had been tied with senior teammate Danyelle Shapiro for eighth place heading into the match against Maquette. Shapiro, who did not play on Sunday, currently has a career record of 64-21.

Binghamton is at Syracuse on Friday for a 3 p.m. match.
