Women's
tennis defeats NJIT 5-2
TENAFLY, N.J.-- Visiting Binghamton
(2-4) swept the doubles point and captured four of the six singles
matches en route to a 5-2 win over New Jersey Institute of Technology
(7-3) late Saturday evening.
Freshmen Anna
Edelman (Great Neck, N.Y.) and Lauren
Bates (Buffalo, N.Y.) defeated Iulia Doci and Fatima
Kasem 8-3 at first doubles. Edelman went on to defeat Doci 6-4,
1-6, 10-8 at first singles while Bates swept Isha Toor 6-0, 6-1
at second singles.
Freshman Yulia
Smirnova (Great Neck, N.Y.) and sophomore Danyelle
Shapiro (Boca Raton, Fla.) also won both their singles
and doubles matches. The tandem defeated Toor and Dasa Stanimirovic
8-4 at third doubles. Smirnova later defeated Fatima Kasem 8-4
at third singles while Shapiro downed Stanimirovic 6-1, 6-3 at
fifth singles.
Sophomore Erica
Rosenblum (Albany, N.Y.) and senior Gayarthri
Balasundar (Syosset, N.Y.) defeated Fanny Aizier and
Chiori Koike 8-4 at second doubles.
