Anna Edelman was a straight-set winner at first singles
NORFOLK, Va. -- The Binghamton
University women's tennis team (4-6) suffered a 6-1 setback to
Old Dominion University in a dual match Sunday afternoon. As
part of the team's spring trip that features five matches in
six days, this afternoon's competition was BU's first outdoor
dual match of 2011.
"We battled well in our first outdoor dual match of the
season," head coach Libby McGovern said. " We need
to continue to work on being more disciplined and focused during
our matches."
The Lady Monarchs were victorious at first and second doubles
en route to securing the match's first point. Despite a few close
three-set matches in the singles portion, ODU prevailed in five
of the six matches to account for the 6-1 final.
Senior Anna Edelman captured BU's
lone point at first singles with a 6-1, 6-2 decision. Junior
Jillian Santos lost at second singles
for the first time in over three weeks. Senior Yulia
Smirnova and junior Emma Leibowicz
each forced a third set but failed to complete the comeback at
third and fifth singles, respectively. Leibowicz teamed with
classmate Marina Bykovskaya for
an 8-4 triumph at third doubles.
The Bearcats are back in action Monday against Virginia State
in a 1 p.m. dual match.
