defeat Quinnipiac 5-2
HAMDEN, Conn.--Binghamton (10-7) extended its longest winning streak since 1995 to seven consecutive matches with a 5-2 victory over host Quinnipiac (5-3) Saturday morning at the Quinnipiac Athletic Center. The Bearcats, whose winning streak began during matches played in Florida during spring break, have won their last seven matches in a span of just 18 days.
On Saturday, freshman Justina Hakimi (Manhasset, N.Y./Herricks) posted a 7-5, 6-1 win at first singles. Hakimi, who is now 13-8 in her first collegiate season, is the lone Bearcat to go 7-0 in singles matches during the team's winning streak. Hakimi also played at first doubles with sophomore Alexis Brill (Syosset, N.Y.), but the pair was defeated 9-8 (7-1). Brill won her fourth singles match 6-0, 6-2.
Junior Janine Sadaka (Great Neck, N.Y.) was a 6-4, 6-3 winner at second singles, while senior Amy Weissberg (Syosset, N.Y.) was a 6-4, 2-6, 6-0 winner at third singles. The pair also produced Binghamton's lone doubles win, beating their Bobcats opponents 8-5.
Senior Kristin Jobe (Baytown, Texas/Texas City) needed a first-set tie-breaker for a 7-6 (7-2), 6-4 win at fifth singles, while sophomore Amy Linda (Bronx, N.Y./LaGuardia) was defeated 6-4, 6-4 at sixth singles. The pair was defeated 8-4 at third doubles.
Binghamton will look to extend its win streak to eight next Saturday at 10 a.m. when the team takes on America East foe New Hampshire in Durham, N.H.
