Shapiro named to America East Women's Tennis All-Academic Squad

VESTAL, N.Y.--Junior Danyelle Shapiro has been named to the 2009 America East Women's Tennis All-Academic Squad. It marks the second consecutive season she has earned academic honors from the conference.

The lone upperclassman on a Binghamton squad that went 17-4 and was the runner up at the America East Tournament, Shapiro went 16-9 in singles play and 8-5 in doubles action. She concluded her season by earning second-team all-conference honors at No. 3 doubles.

In the classroom, Shapiro has been named to the America East Academic Honor Roll in 2007 and 2008. Furthermore, she was inducted in the National College Athlete Honors Society last spring.

In order to be nominated for the America East All-Academic squad, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve for their team and participate in at least 50 percent of their team’s games or competitions. In the classroom, a student-athlete must have a 3.30 GPA and have completed at least one calendar year at their institution. Freshmen are not eligible for consideration.
