snags America East Player of the Week honor
Senior standout played key role in extending BU's win streak
to four games
VESTAL, N.Y. -- Senior Yulia Smirnova was named the America East Player
of the Week, announced the conference office on Tuesday. Smirnova
is the third member of the women's tennis team to earn the weekly
conference accolade this season.
Over the weekend, Smirnova won a pair of matches over host UMBC
en route to a 7-0 sweep Saturday. She was instrumental in Binghamton's
historic win over Boston University on Sunday with a hard-fought
three-set win at the third singles spot. In the doubles portion
of play, the Terriers swept all three matches to secure the point.
However, Smirnova fueled a Bearcat comeback as one of four players
to win a singles match, extending Binghamton's winning streak
to four games.
For the season, Smirnova has posted nearly identical records
in singles and doubles play at 19-11 and 19-10, respectively.
She is 86-33 in career singles matches, while registering an
81-39 mark in doubles matches over four years.
