Immediate Release: March 2, 2006 Contact: David O'Brian (dobrian@binghamton.edu) Phone: 607-777-6478 Unbeaten Binghamton women's tennis sweeps St. Bonaventure 7-0 OLEAN, N.Y.-- Visiting Binghamton (5-0) continued its torrid start in dual matches this season, defeating St. Bonavneture (0-4) 7-0 on Friday afternoon. The Bearcats are off to their best start in dual matches since moving up to the NCAA Division I level five years ago. Binghamton swept the three doubles matches and went on to win all six six singles matches for the first time this season. In their five dual events this season, the Bearcats are 14-1 in doubles matches. Senior Zeynep Altinay (Ankara, Turkey) won her school-record 78th career singles match, defeating Anna Perevenzetseva 6-0, 6-0 at first singles. She is now 78-25 all time. Altinay and freshman Erica Rosenblum (Albany, N.Y.) teamed up at No. 2 doulbes to defeat Stephanie Fosnight and Anna Martorell 8-0. Rosenblum also defeated Martorell 6-0, 6-0 at fourth singles. Senior Lya Kushnirovich (Brooklyn, N.Y.) defeated Fosnight 6-1, 6-2 at third singles, running her career record to 76-28. She also teamed up with sophomore Juliana Umeki (Mogi de Cruises, Brazil) at first doubles to defeat Perevenzetseva and Yolande Callaghan 8-0. Junior Jenn Naegeli (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) and sophomore Nicole Scarangella (Massapequa, N.Y.) defeated Eileen Horgan and Vanessa Close 8-0 at third doubles. Naegeli also defeated Horgan 6-0, 6-0 at fifth singles and Scarangella swept Close 6-0, 6-0 at sixth singles. Binghamton hosts Niagara on Sunday at 7 a.m. at the Binghamton Tennis Center. SINGLES 1.
