Binghamton women's tennis defeated 4-3 by Temple

PHILADELPHIA, Pa.-- The Binghamton women's tennis team (11-3) had its six-match winning streak snapped with a 4-3 setback at Temple (14-5) on Saturday afternoon.

The Bearcats won the doubles point but the host Owls won four of the six singles matches to pull out the victory. Three of the Temple wins went the full three sets.

Sophomore Yulia Smirnova was Binghamton's top performer. She defeated Theresa Stangl 7-6 (3), 6-4 at third singles and joined freshman Emma Leibowicz to record an 8-3 win over Stangl and Josephine Bergman 8-3 at third doubles.

At first doubles, sophomore Lauren Bates and freshman Jillian Santos defeated Elyse Steiner and Lucie Pazderova 8-1. Later on, however, Steiner downed Bates 6-3, 6-2 at first singles and Pazderova rallied for a 1-6, 6-2, 6-2 win over Santos at second singles.

Freshman Yagmur Gone was the Bearcats' other winner, beating Christine Clermont 6-4, 7-6 (5) at fifth singles.

Binghamton heads to George Washington on Monday for a 1:30 p.m. match.
