Women's tennis loses 4-3 match to UMass

ITHACA, N.Y.-- UMass (3-2) won four out of six singles matches to squeak out a 4-3 win over Binghamton (1-4) in women's tennis action late Friday evening. It marks the second season in a row that the Bearcats have fallen to the Minutewomen by a single point.

Freshmen Anna Edelman (Great Neck, N.Y.) and Lauren Bates (Buffalo, N.Y.) each won their singles and doubles matches. Edelman knocked off Masha Pozar 6-2, 6-2 at first singles while Bates recorded a 6-2, 6-2 win over Tanisha Hodgson at second singles. At first doubles, the Bearcat duo defeated Pozar and Candynce Boney 8-3.

The Bearcats went on to take the doubles point as sophomore Erica Rosenblum (Albany, N.Y.) and senior Gayarthri Balasundar (Syosset, N.Y.) rallied at No. 2 to record a 9-7 win over Hodgson and Kaitlyn Carpenter. Rosenblum and Balasundar were down 7-4 before capturing five consecutive games.

Binghamton heads to NJIT for a 7 p.m. match next Saturday.
