Binghamton women's tennis beats UMBC 5-2

BALTIMORE, MD.-- Sophomore Lauren Bates and freshmen Jillian Santos and Marina Bykovskaya all won their singles and doubles matches, leading Binghamton (13-3, 3-0 AE) to a 5-2 win at UMBC (4-5) in an America East Conference women's tennis match on Thursday afternoon. The triumph was the Bearcats' eighth in their last nine matches.

Bates and Santos defeated Ana Mungo and Cornelia Carpcea 8-5 at first doubles. Bates went on to down Mungo 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 at first singles while Santos beat Carpcea 7-6 (5), 6-1 at second doubles.

Bykovskaya beat Alice Chen 6-2, 6-3 at fourth singles. She also joined junior Danyelle Shapiro at third doubles to defeat Emily Mannix and Lauren Hamilton 8-6.

Also victorious for Binghamton was sophomore Yulia Smirnova, who defeated Carmen Jackman 6-1, 6-2 at third singles.

The Bearcats host Fairleigh Dickinson on Monday at 3 p.m.
