Results from Day One of USTA National College Invitational

FLUSHING, N.Y.-- Sophomores Yulia Smirnova and Lauren Bates advanced to the second round of the Flight 2 Doubles, highlighting Binghamton's first day at the USTA National College Invitational. It marks the first time in its seven-year Division I history that the Bearcats have taken part in the prestigious event.

Smirnova and Bates defeated Samantha Gridlee and Samantha Rosenkrans 8-5 in the opening round. In singles play, Smirnova, Bates and Jillian Santos each went 1-1 on the day.
