Binghamton women's blanks Villanova 7-0

VILLANOVA, Pa. -- The Binghamton women's tennis team (8-2) got back on the winning track with a 7-0 sweep at Villanova (0-11) on Sunday afternoon. The visiting Bearcats captured all three doubles matches as well as the six singles contests.

Junior Anna Edelman, who is currently ranked No. 112 in the current ITA National Rankings, beat Carla Erksine won 6-0, 6-1 at second singles. In the process, she won her ninth consecutive dual match. Edelman also joined senior Danyelle Shapiro for an 8-3 triumph at third doubles over Wesleigh Donadio and Emily Urda.

Junior Lauren Bates improved to 67-25 all time in singles matches with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Courtney Reed at the No. 1 position. She remains in eighth place all time in school history in terms of career victories. In doubles play, Bates and sophomore Emma Leibowicz scored an 8-0 win over Erksine and Alison Solberg, also at the No. 1 slot.

Binghamton heads to Fairleigh Dickinson on Friday for a noon match.
