Women first, men second at Colgate Harry Lang Cross Country Invitational
VESTAL, N.Y.--Senior Lindsey Bohrer-Yardley (Oneida, N.Y./ Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) and juniors Erica Angel (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./ Speckenkill), Kathryn Murnane (Rockville Center, N.Y./ Oceanside) and Stacy Kramer (Loudonville, N.Y./ Colonie Central) tied for first in the women's race and senior Sergey Shteyn (Staten Island, N.Y./ Tottenville) finished fifth in the men's race, as the Binghamton cross country teams opened up their seasons at the Colgate Harry Lang Invitational. The women finished first out of five teams with 10 points while the men were second out of seven teams with 32 points (only the top four runners scored).
"I was extremely pleased with the way both teams ran today," head coach Annette Acuff said. "We wanted to focus on running as a pack today since we have a tough meet up at New Hampshire next weekend. Both teams did very well."
In the women's race, the winning quartet crossed the line with a time of 24:02 for the 6,000 meter course. There were 29 runners total. For Bohrer-Yardley, it marks the third season in a row that she has finished first in the race. She won the meet by 27 seconds last season and by 17 seconds in 2002.
In the men's race, Shteyn clocked a time of 27:42 for the 7,800 meter course. Right behind him was sophomore Jeff Herbert (Somerville, N.J./ Somerville), who was sixth in 27:43. Junior Prahlad Genung (Afton, N.Y./ Afton Central) was eighth (27:58) and sophomore Mike Wlodarski (Syracuse, N.Y./ Cicero North) was 13th (28:36). There were 46 runners in the men's race.
Up next, both the men's and women's teams head up to the University of New Hampshire for a six-team meet next Saturday. It will be run on the same course as the America East Conference Championships on Oct. 30.
